What is Spirulina?
Spirulina is a blue-green microalgae that grows in freshwater environments, and is one of the most nutrient rich foods on Earth. Dating back to the 16th century, the Aztecs are the first documented users of spirulina, which has long been known as a powerful superfood and source of clean, plant-based protein.
Where does Spirulina Come From?
Pure, organic spirulina is harvested from clean, unpolluted, freshwater sources, and dried before being turned into a powder supplement — which can be added into a variety of foods, including dressings, lattes, healthy snacks or even better, sippable soups!
What are the benefits of Spirulina?
Spirulina is the most nutrient-dense food on Earth. Just one tablespoon contains 4 grams of protein, 11% of the recommended daily value of Vitamin B1 and 15% of the recommended daily value of Vitamin B2 — which the human body requires for fat digestion, as well as eye and brain function. Spirulina also contains vitamins C,D, & E, iron and calcium – both of which are extra important for anyone following a vegetarian lifestyle. The naturally occurring iron will give you sharp focus and keep the brain functioning at optimal capacity. Spirulina has also been proven to help control blood sugar levels, relieve allergies, which is vital to weight loss and weight control, and especially important to diabetics. However, there are some health experts that advise against spirulina if you are pregnant, or are currently taking certain prescription medications.
How should I consume Spirulina?
Spirulina can have a very earthy taste when eaten by itself (because, algae), so we recommend mixing it with something delicious and nutritious. And because spirulina is often found in tablet or powder form, it is simple to transport and add to a variety of meals, whether at home or on the road.
First time taking Spirulina? Start out with a small dose and gradually work your way up to larger amounts over time — of course, AFTER consulting with a medical professional!

Mix it with water!
This may be the simplest way to get your daily dose of spirulina in – simply add some powder to a glass of water and enjoy. But be warned, it may turn the water a blueish/greenish color… and this definitely isn’t the tastiest way to get your daily dose in!
Add it to your meals!
